Touchdown

We had a long day on Tuesday- getting up at 8am in France and going to sleep by 11pm in California (about 24 hours later). The flights went well, aside from a 90 minute wait to check our bags in Paris.
As I have time, I'll post more about the rest of our trip, and I'm going back and adding photos to the posts where I couldn't add them before.
Our transition back to the reality of daily life and working isn't going to be as gradual as I had hoped, unfortunately. On the way home from the airport on Tuesday night, my mom had to break the news to us that my grandpa passed away while we were gone. She didn't want to tell us while we were away so we could enjoy our trip. For those who don't know, Grandpa had been living in an assisted care facility for the past 6 1/2 years. I had a schedule of visiting him every other week during my lunch break, and the last time I saw him there was no indication that he wouldn't be there when we got back. It's hard to understand why things happen the way they do sometimes. Why did this happen when we were out of the country for the first time in three years, so I couldn't be there to say goodbye? I just have to be happy knowing that he passed quickly and without pain, with a good friend and nurses by his side.
It will take a while to adjust to this new reality. But in the meantime, we're all hanging in there.

I'm real sorry to hear about your Grandpa. It's tough not getting to say goodbye (I had the same experience when we were in Japan with my grandma). I hope we get to see you guys soon :)

It seems to be the same with me. I was in Italy when my grandma passed. I will pray for your family during this time.
